A common thread between many helpful programs for veterans in need is they’ve been founded by fellow military members. Even after their tours of duty are done, service members stick together and look out for one another.

Idaho resident Frank Smith, a Vietnam veteran, is the leader of Veterans Mobility, a program designed to refurbish donated electric wheelchairs and pass them on to veterans in need. The effort was meant to be a one-off project, but has become a national campaign.

So far, over 120 veterans have received wheelchairs. In 20 months of operation, Veterans Mobility has expanded its reach well beyond Idaho, with one chair reaching Wisconsin and another going as far as Virginia.

As long as there are veterans in need of help, there will be programs to assist them – often driven by fellow vets.
