It was a conflict that lasted less than two months, but it left a mark on those who were there. Now, veterans of Operation Urgent Fury are looking back and remembering the Caribbean mission, 33 years later.

More than 60 soldiers who served in the 1983 offensive recently returned to Fort Bragg to reunite, tour the premises and create a historic bond between today’s soldiers and those who have served in the past.

Participants noted that since serving together in the Caribbean, the former paratroopers have felt bonded for life. This is their third time reuniting.

Between the rapid deployment of soldiers and the process of close communication between forces, the 51-day Grenada conflict can be seen as a prelude to the way military operations are conducted today.
