Greetings!

As the country gets closer to choosing our future president, one thing is for sure: Whomever is elected to the job, he or she won’t have military experience.

When did a military background – historically an unwritten requirement for the role of Commander in Chief – become less important?

Well, we might be overstating the recency of the situation.

Whoever is elected in November will join a number of presidents who have never served in uniform.

John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson and FDR were never in the military.

George Bush Senior, a World War II Navy pilot, was the last president to have seen combat.

Looking back, it seems that military service was never truly the implicit requirement for reaching the Oval Office that some may have thought.

Still, no one could blame a veteran for wishing one of their own was left in the race.
