First responders who answer calls to crime scenes must have a huge amount of specialized skills and competencies. Now, they can add one more to the list: computer knowledge.

Police officers and other responders who interact with crime scenes have been trained in not disturbing evidence, but with so much information now stored digitally, this process has changed over the years. The FBI’s cyber crime unit, Carnegie Mellon University and the International Association of Chiefs of Police have stepped in to teach new skills.

The role of first responder will always change with the times to suit the way people live. The addition of digital skills is one such sign of a job description that’s in tune with the way crimes are committed and investigated.
