Veterans who have experienced trauma while on active duty can turn to specialized therapies once they return home, to find peace and relaxation. Sometimes these methods go beyond a clinical setting and include hobbies such as creating art – or music.

A program in Texas is designed to help veterans express themselves through song, teaching music theory and composition. Instead of just playing music, the members of the program focus on writing their own, with lyrics acting as a form of expression.

Once veterans have learned to write and perform their original music, they have the option of performing for the public, expressing their unique perspectives for a civilian audience. This represents one way to bridge the gap between military and home front life.
