Communities that want to publicly honor the veterans and first responders who live there can do so through permanent signs – these messages will weather the seasons and express gratitude for years to come.
Deschutes County, in Oregon, recently approved eight signs honoring both veterans and first responders to sit alongside highways. Retired Army Colonel Dick Tobiason, who leads the Bend Heroes Foundation, requested the project.
Officials believe this is the first project of its kind in the state.
Approximately 15,000 veterans and 1,000 emergency responders reside in the county. The project was unanimously approved by the county commission, and its unveiling will coincide with Veterans Day.
