First responders protect their communities every day while on the clock – but this doesn’t stop many from going the extra mile and contributing even more on their own time.

A recent example of first responders going the extra mile comes from Greenville, South Carolina. About two dozen representatives of police, fire and sheriff’s departments came together to volunteer on a Habitat for Humanity site, building affordable residences for families that need them. The teamwork and community spirit implicit in first responders’ roles are on display.

The effort not only shows how committed to helping others these emergency personnel are, but also provides a great example of how civilians can get involved and give back through volunteer work.

Thanks for watching, and check back often for more first responder and veteran news.
