When a first responder is seriously injured in the line of duty, what kinds of programs and structures are there to look out for that individual?

A proposal on the ballot in Florida aims to give tax relief to first responders who can no longer work due to incidents in the line of duty.

Amendment 3 would apply to members of all emergency agencies who have suffered permanent disabilities, and cancel out homestead property taxes.

Debate over whether to approve the amendment revolves around whether it’s right to grant tax exemptions based on profession. Supporters state that it is a way to honor and show appreciation to first responders.

The issue will appear on the ballot on November 8 and will be assessed on a county-to-county basis based on regional budgets. If 60 percent of voters approve it, it will go into effect.

Thanks for watching, we’ll see you next time.
