Welcome back to our series on transitioning from a military lifestyle to a career in law enforcement. While this job path is a competitive one, the skills you acquired in the service provide the perfect jumping off point for becoming a police officer.

In addition to preparing your resume and overall fitness, there are a few things you must know in order to launch your law enforcement career. Firstly, you qualify for veterans’ preference, meaning that you receive extra points on your civil service exam. To take advantage of this benefit, complete the Standard Form 15 and claim the points on your resume and application.

Even though you receive extra points, make sure to thoroughly prepare for your test by completing a study guide. Additionally, ask if you can go on a ride-along to forge a connection with your local force and gain in-depth industry knowledge.

Thanks for watching, and be sure to tune in soon for more advice.
