While veterans have access to health care in a lot of cases, experts say the mental health care they receive might not always live up to their needs.

With this in mind, U.S. Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania is trying to bring more options to former service members who need help.

Casey is pushing colleagues in the Senate to create more funding for veteran mental health care, and expand the VA’s existing programs for these needs.

And he wants a particular focus to be put on funding for vets with PTSD.

Specifically, he has asked for a bill about backlogged disability claims that passed the Senate last November to be expanded and approved by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The more that can be done to help veterans in need, the better their lives are likely to be.
