Greetings, and welcome back as we continue to talk about the Post-9/11 GI Bill. We’ve already discussed the qualifications, and if you meet those you’re probably curious about what this program can offer you.
The Post-9/11 GI Bill gives you up to 36 months of education-based benefits. Generally, you can access these benefits for up to 15 years after your active-duty service is over. While many colleges and universities participate in this initiative, there are a number of other post-secondary institutions that accept these benefits.
If college isn’t your goal, you can put the bill toward things like flight, vocational or on-the-job training. If you’re trying to earn a degree, the Yellow Ribbon Program within the GI Bill will pay for the resident tuition and fees at a state institution. If you choose to attend a private college, the bill will give you the national maximum for each year’s tuition.
