Many organizations now look to help veterans in many aspects of their lives, and one of the most important is fostering a sense of community.

To that end, the city of Berea, Ohio; Pathways Hospice of Berea; and Berea Cares recently hosted a veterans picnic with free food and music.

Part of the reason for the event was to help veterans learn about hospice care, so they can better understand what some fellow former service members go through.

Pathways Hospice is seeking veteran volunteers to visit their sick counterparts as a means of lifting their spirits.

The hospice also helps families of veterans who have passed on, providing support for up to a year.

With this in mind, it’s no wonder so many veterans showed up for the picnic, highlighting just how far their sense of duty stretches even after their official service is over.
