Welcome back. Last time, we touched on how to tell your kids about your deployment. Now, let’s explore some of the things you can do to make the separation easier.

While you’re deployed, it’s important to keep your kids on a normal schedule. Discuss their normal routine with their caretaker and make sure they stick to it. If your assignment prevents you from returning home for the holidays, encourage your family to participate in traditions nonetheless. This sense of normalcy will provide comfort and support during your absence.

It’s also important to communicate as much as possible. Use video chatting and social media to keep connected, and try sending handwritten letters as if you were pen pals.

Thanks for listening, and make sure to check back soon.
