Tim McGraw is one of the biggest country music acts in the world, and this summer he will be putting his star power to good use. The "Live Like You Were Dying" singer plans to give out 25 mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans this summer while he's on tour with fellow country singer Kenny Chesney, The Associated Press reports.

The initiative kicks off on Memorial Day with a performance in New York as part of the Fleet Week celebrations, and continues McGraw's tradition of supporting servicemembers and their families. In addition to being streamed live on YouTube, the Beacon Theater concert will also be broadcast to military bases around the globe. McGraw himself is part of a military family with his sister, uncle and grandfather all having served.

"I've known people my whole life who are in service to America. And I think in my position to be able to do something like that is probably the ultimate thing," McGraw told the AP. "So to be able to go on tour and provide sort of a stable foundation for a veteran and their family is something I really look forward to."

The program required a great deal of effort from a number of different organizations. McGraw teamed up with Operation Homefront and Chase banking group, and also received donations from the Academy of Country Music's Lifting Lives program, according to the AP.

The Brothers of the Sun Tour kicks off on June 2 with a show in Tampa, Florida, before hitting some of the biggest cities in the country. The tour includes stops in Washington, D.C., Houston and Chicago before wrapping up with a two-night stand at Gillette Stadium in August.

Tackling the housing issues facing military families is certainly a worthwhile cause. The recession hit servicemembers especially hard and as a result, many of their houses were foreclosed upon. However, in an effort to protect military families from further concerns, the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a measure that would extend the foreclosure protections in the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act, Reuters reports.

"Our troops fighting overseas in Iraq or Afghanistan should not have to fight here at home just to keep a roof over the heads of their loved ones," Representative Elijah Cummings told the news agency.
